Lateral Leadership
Trust and understanding are essential for project success. But when employees work across to functions on the project, behavior cannot be modelled and routines get abandoned. Conflicts of interest and power games become unavoidable.
Employees in the project matrix, leaders with professional management responsibilities, and project managers know what is needed: they want to make things happen – to reach their goals and bring the project to a successful conclusion. To accomplish this they need to exert influence even though there is no formal authority for that influence.
Objectives
- Increase your effectiveness in the shadow of the formal structure
- Understand the areas of activity and principles of lateral leadership, broaden your own role portfolio and areas of activity, and enhance your professional toolbox
- Examine your own professional situation and review situation-relevant courses of action
- Effectively and persuasively represent interests without disciplinary power or hierarchical legitimacy; create commitments; and develop a shared commitment
After the seminar, you will be in the position to balance opposing interests despite not possessing hierarchical authority or power. You will be in a position to represent your interests effectively and in a sustainable way, thereby achieving greater effectiveness and impact.
